Hello friends who have potty trained! It's about that time here at the Robinson house. I am looking for advice on how you did it. If anyone could help me out with tips, tricks, or books that you used, I would appreciate it! Just post a comment with any help you can give me. Thanks!

My advice is to get them a potty and a little pack of underwear sometime between the age of two and three. Tell them what its all about let them sit on the toilet whenever they want and encourage them but don't force them. I even let Hudson wear the underwear over his diaper. When they get close to or around the age of three then start potty training them. A lot of people don't agree with me but Hudson potty trained QUICK (he had just turned three). The more I talk to people the more they say to wait until they're three. I personally have the opinion that if we do it before they're ready then WE'RE the ones who are trained not them. I know that Hudson wasn't actually ready to understand how to control and understand the sensations of going to the bathroom until then OR to tell me when he needed to go until he was three. Some people might say its because he was a boy but my sister has three girls and they were all three too.
But once it was time all I had to do was make sure and remind him to let me know. I had to really be on top of it during the week of training. Because he was old enough to understand what needed to be done, he told me, we took him to the bathroom and he did it. He wore trainers at night for about two weeks and then when I noticed he was waking up dry I let him wear the underwear at night. I think he had an accident once but then he just woke up at around 11 to go potty and then after about three months of that he started sleeping through the whole night.
Okay sorry thats long. It may be confusing too. I guess if you have any questions you can call me.
That's my advice. Take it or leave it. lol.
How are things anyway? It was so good to see you guys the other day.
I have to agree with waiting. I started way early and Rachel didn't get it until about 2 and 3/4 when her dad got really mad after a couple of accidents. She never told me she needed to go until then so it was about 15-18 months of me asking and reminding and cleaning up messes. I felt like it was completely parent training until then. I also did pull ups for naps until she stopped taking them at about 3 and for a long time she would poop every time during her nap. Perhaps if I'd been more committed she would have "gotten" it earlier. My sister in law says she just gets rid of diapers and pullups and just lives with accidents for a week and then the kids get it because she won't go back. Rachel didn't stay dry at night until 4 and 3/4. And then she had a week or two of getting up at 11 and then just slept through the night after that.
Good luck! I hope things are going well for you guys!
I'm only on your blog every once in a while--but I waited until Guy was nearly 3 and did the Potty train in less than a day method--but modified.
Essentially you go all the way at once, and every time they have an accident you practice, practice, practice. 5 or 10 times, running to the potty and sitting on it.
